Ok, lovely people I thought I'd share with you a project that several of my friends and I are doing this summer.
This summer we are reading Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace. I found a website detailing all things IS (Infinite Summer @infinitesummer) and we'll be using that to get ideas and such.
Oh, my gosh Stephanie this sounds so exciting I want to join in on the fun!!!
I want you to join too and joining is simple, just reply to this post (indicate that you want to join and tell me what book you want to win--see below for details) so I know that you want to and then come back to my bloggity blog every Sunday to comment and exchange ideas. I'll post a link to every Sunday post below that way all you'll have to do is bookmark this one post to come back to again and again. You'll be able to find all the Infinite Summer Sundays.

What's in it for me?
If you complete the whole entire book with me and comment on every Sunday, I'll put your name in a drawing and you'll have the opportunity to win [Score!]:
The winner will be chosen using a random number generator (using your message number from the thread) and will be announced in the beginning of November.
What if I get behind?
No worries I won't close the contest until the last Sunday in October. This will give you plenty of time to catch up and comment on every IS post!!!
I really want to play, but don't have a Gmail or Google account
That's OK, just comment using whatever social media you want to (LiveJournal, Wordpress, Typepad, AIM, OpenID) according to Blogger. Just make sure I have your name so I can enter you in the drawing!!!

We'll be discussing the first 78 pages on Sunday the 24th of June. Hopefully, this gives you plenty of time to buy/steal/borrow the book and get to reading!!!
Here's our reading schedule, feel free to print it out and hang it on your fridge:
I've wanted to read this for a long time. Maybe this will get me motivated to.
ReplyDeletei feel the same way and would absolutely loved it if you joined! :D
DeleteYes, I want to participate and my book choice is, "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again: Essays and Arguments."
ReplyDeleteBTW, I'm Todd on Goodreads.
DeleteHello Todd!
DeleteI am in! My friend gave me that for my kindle and I hadn't started it yet. I am soooo happy to be reading because I WANT to, not because I HAVE to!
ReplyDeleteYeah! what book would you like to win? see you on the 24th! :D
DeleteI'm ready to get this started! My book of choice is "The Pale King."
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love the blog Stephanie, and having us comment each week is a great idea (although it sorta feels like summer school ;)). I still like our idea for skype book club too though...we need to get that up and going!
Rock on!
DeleteThanks, I love my little blog, too...and, I agree about the commenting, but it seems to work for the Goodreads groups I'm in and it keeps me pressing on...even when I don't want to :D And, yes, when shall we Skype and what shall we read? I'm going to FB to post this again. :D I also want to do a physical meeting at the winery...sigh...
I would love to join! I got this for myself this past Christmas and it's on my to-read for this year. I have the kindle version though so I'll have to figure out how the page numbers correspond.
ReplyDeleteDeana on GR :D
it seems that 75 pages is about 6% if that helps...i'm sorry i can't be more helpful than that at this time, i think the official infinite summer blog has it by percents (http://infinitesummer.org/index). hope that helps! :D
Deletei'm in TGGBC with you and i love this idea. i'm going to try to finally read this book! just come here each sunday starting 6/24? or post to our own blogs? that part confused me. :/
ReplyDeleteHello Weezie! Come back here every Sunday and what book would you want if you won?
DeleteHi Stephanie!
ReplyDeleteI too am in the TGGBC - and I've been excited since I saw your post there about reading "Infinite Jest".
I just checked because I couldn't remember when to start and much to my suprise (and delight!) noticed that there is a chance to win. I would love to win "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men".
i've started a little bit and so far it's a trip!
Deleteand, thanks for telling me what book you might like! :D
I'm definitely interested in reading this...I first heard of it in a Goodreads.com group and it is on my TBR list!
ReplyDeleteread with us cynthia! the more the merrier. just indicate what book you'd like for the drawing and come back here every sunday starting on the 24th to talk about it! :D
DeleteI'm in :), and my book of choice is Brief Interviews with Hideous Men.
ReplyDeletehoorah! have you started yet? and, when are you back in town?
DeleteCount me in. The Broom in the System would be lovely. :)
ReplyDeleteexcellent! see you this evening for your bday!!! :D
DeleteI'm in.
ReplyDeletelovely! if you win what book would you like?
DeleteHello, I'd like to join too, please. Can I enter for a copy of 'Everything and More'?
ReplyDeleteexcellent! look forward to seeing you tomorrow!!! :D
DeleteI can't believe I forgot to make it official! :D If I win, I'd like The Broom in the System.
ReplyDeletewill do brandon! thanks! i can't wait to read your insights! :D
DeleteEveryone, make it to page 176, at least. I know it seems fragmented and weird and, perhaps, confusing. It is. It's supposed to be. The world (in Infinite Jest, but anywhere, too) is also. If I win: Brief Interviews, please.
ReplyDeleteHello Unknown is that what you'd like to go by or is Blogger being glitchy...again? and, i've got you signed up, now go on over to our first post! :D
DeleteI am joining late, I am joining! Will do my best to catch up! I have the book coming and I also have the audio, so if I'm not reading, I'm listening!
