Six Word Saturday #35

My life in six words
Great way to spend Winter Days

The CENTRE offers something for the entire family. In designing the Aquatic Center, the goal was to provide quality, family-oriented, leisure opportunities that promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage intergenerational participation. The 14,000 square foot Natatorium is a multi-purpose facility everyone can enjoy with features such as:
  • Zero-depth, beach-like entry
  • Interactive play features
  • A vortex and lazy river
  • Four 25-yard lap lanes
  • 150 ft. water slide with splashdown pool
  • Warm water therapy pool
Lifeguard staff is certified by the American Red Cross. Each staff member has received extensive training in Water Rescues, First Aid, Rescue Breathing, CPR, Automated External Defibrillator, Oxygen Administration and Blood Borne Pathogens. The high standard is maintained by a contract with the American Red Cross for unannounced lifeguard audits to ensure staff is meeting the stringent requirements of maintaining certification.

We're leaving in about 5 hours, gotta go find the swimsuits and the Beach towels.

How do you get away from the Winter blahs? (granted where I live we haven't had much of a Winter...just two lame snow days!)

Please bring on the retro appetizers!

Devils On Horseback... put oyster's in the middle, they're
Angels On Horseback, I'd do that,
but we aren't that kind of group.

I'm one of the people in charge of bringing appetizers for our all day professional development day. I'm going retro and leaning towards Devils on Horseback, but I also found several other good ideas...

What do you think? Which one should I bring?

About World Book Night (WBN)

What is World Book Night?

World Book Night is an annual celebration designed to spread a love of reading and books. To be held in the U.S. as well as the U.K. and Ireland on April 23, 2012. It will see tens of thousands of people go out into their communities to spread the joy and love of reading by giving out free World Book Night paperbacks.
World Book Night, through social media and traditional publicity, will also promote the value of reading, of printed books, and of bookstores and libraries to everyone year-round.
Successfully launched in the U.K. in 2011, World Book Night will also be celebrated in the U.S. in 2012, with news of more countries to come in future years. Please join our mailing list for regular World Book Night U.S. news. And thank you to our U.K. friends for such a wonderful idea!
Additionally, April 23 is UNESCO’s World Book Day, chosen due to the anniversary of Cervantes’ death, as well as Shakespeare’s birth and death.

If this sounds interesting or you want to learn more go here for US, here for UK and Ireland

I'm soooo excited!!!

"Newsies" to Broadway; must get tickets!

My sisters and I have probably seen the movie about a million times...no lie. And, yes, that is Christian Bale in the pic on the left and...yes, it's a musical so he sings. :D Sorry for those of you who can't see the videos (stupid country copyright laws!) they are Carrying the Banner, Santa Fe, The World Will Know and Seize the Day from the musical.

My life in six words
My own version of "Hey Girl"

I've noticed the Feminist Ryan Gosling meme for awhile now, but somebody on Pinterest keeps on pinning them and is keeping Gosling's tender side at the forefront of my brain.  When my friend got into a car accident after leaving my house I felt horrible and sad and immediately thought of "Hey Girl"...who doesn't want to be cheered up with something thoughtful, said with sincerity? I created these using our favorite, Detective Elliot Stabler (yes, we cried when Chris Meloni left the show).

Think the "Hey Girl" phenom is interesting/weird/hot? If you've created your own "Hey Girl" show me the link, I wanna see it! It is after all Saturday, and I ain't gotta thing I wanna do!

Six Word Saturday #22

My life in six words
Please help support my former student

I haven't done a 6WS is several weeks, mostly because I couldn't think of anything clever to say...!
Although I still haven't anything clever, I do have a worthy cause. A former student of mine has just graduated from Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) and like most artist he is jobless. Thanks to Kickstarter, however, he can get the backing he needs through private and public donations. It's easy...grab your credit/debit card (I found out the hard way you'll need that in the donating) and click on the picture above. If you like what you see, donate...even $1 will help him reach his goal of $700 and if you think about it $700 isn't really that much.

Yes, this is a shameless plug for a former student of mine that I believe has promise otherwise I wouldn't be wasting my time.

Have a great Saturday and check out Kickstarter and The Herd, even if you don't donate. It's a pretty cool concept.

My life in six words
Memory Lane with the Tiny Tot!

I spent the better part of Saturday reorganzing the tiny tot's room. This meant mostly going through her clothing and packing up things she could no longer fit. It took the better part of yesterday because I spent the better part of yesterday in a nostalgic cloud thinking about when she wore this outfit or had this shirt...sigh, memories.

My life in six words
The kittens' name is Hester Pritten!

Thanks to those of you who gave suggestions Ebony was in the running and so was Snowball, because who doesn't like irony. I tried to get the tiny tot to name her all week...asking various questions "Who is this?" Answer: the kitten, mommy "What's the kittens' name?" Answer: It's over/under there "Not where, but what" Answer: it's the kitten mommy...22 months, might be to young to name a cat, or she just doesn't care what the cat's name is, she's more concerned with carrying it around like a rag doll. Hester, like the Hester of old, takes her lickings here on Earth, she too must know her reward will come from high above. My friend suggested her full name, and she also wants us to get her a Scarlet A collar...hmmm???

Six Word Saturday #16

My life in six words
"I cannot go to school today..."

Sick by Shel Silverstein

"I cannot go to school today"
Said little Peggy Ann McKay.
"I have the measles and the mumps,
A gash, a rash and purple bumps.

My mouth is wet, my throat is dry.
I'm going blind in my right eye.
My tonsils are as big as rocks,
I've counted sixteen chicken pox.

And there's one more - that's seventeen,
And don't you think my face looks green?
My leg is cut, my eyes are blue,
It might be the instamatic flu.

I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke,
I'm sure that my left leg is broke.
My hip hurts when I move my chin,
My belly button's caving in.

My back is wrenched, my ankle's sprained,
My 'pendix pains each time it rains.
My toes are cold, my toes are numb,

I have a sliver in my thumb.
My neck is stiff, my voice is weak,
I hardly whisper when I speak.
My tongue is filling up my mouth,

I think my hair is falling out.
My elbow's bent, my spine ain't straight,
My temperature is one-o-eight.
My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear,

There's a hole inside my ear.
I have a hangnail, and my heart is ...
What? What's that? What's that you say?
You say today is .............. Saturday?

G'bye, I'm going out to play!"

How many days until Christmas Break???
